What is the sanding process?
There are five specific steps to the sanding process:

  • Rough sanding
  • Fine sanding
  • Edging around the walls and corners
  • Hand sanding
  • Fiberdisc buffing

Benefits of Sanding:

  • Smooth out bumps or irregularities with the floorboards
  • Removes minor scratches
  • Prepares the top surface of the wood for the final finishing coat

Sanding disclaimer:

  • Scratches that penetrate deep into the wood cannot always be fixed and may need to be replaced
  • Deep discoloration (water damage, pet urine, etc) cannot always be fixed with sanding and may need to be replaced

When can we walk on the floors?
We suggest to wait 24 hours after the final coat has been applied. It takes 30 days for the floor to completely harden, but it is OK to walk on after 24 hours.

When is it OK to move furniture on the floor?
Normally 3 days after the final coat.

How soon can I put an area rug on the new floors?
At least 2-3 weeks.

How do I choose the best approach for my floors?
We’re happy to provide a free consultation and estimate. Although we want you to be happy with the final results, please remember that scratches that penetrate deep into the wood and extreme discoloration cannot always be fixed with sanding and may need to be replaced.

What happens when you sand my floors?
We sand your floors to remove any existing finish, smooth out irregularities, remove minor scratches and prepare the wood to accept its new finish. We have special equipment that can tackle rough spots, edges, and corners. We even sand by hand when needed.
